Bedazzled Blouses
Heavy Kanjeevaram sarees teamed up with heavily embellished blouses in contrast colours is the trend right now. But there is another group of brides who love to keep it simple and they have been sporting beautiful blouses that are styled with the borders and very minimal embroidery. Oh, and by the way, elbow length sleeves are still very popular with the South Indian brides.

Not so traditional Mehendi Outfits
We have been observing that quite a few brides are opting for not so traditional outfits for their mehendi ceremony. The brides are ready to experiment with their wardrobe and so we are getting to see unique outfits. And we are sure this trend is here to stay!

Floral / Gota Jewellery
While traditional floral jewellery has always been very popular with the brides for mehendi functions, a good number of brides have been opting for gota work jewellery as well. And did we mention that a few enterprising brides have chosen terracotta jewellery!! Seriously, they look gorgeous! Now you decide what to sport! 🙂

Embellished Silk Thread Bangles
We have seen that every other South Indian bride has worn silk thread bangles (instead of traditional gold and / or glass bangles) in 2016. And we are sure this trend would continue in 2017 as well. But if you ask us, it’s a little overdone and so may be we should look for alternatives. Raw silk bangles could fit the bill. They are as beautiful, if not more. And most importantly they would perfectly match the wedding ensemble. Try!

Unique Mehendi Designs
We all love traditional mehendi designs and swoon over the peacock, paisley and lotus motifs. But of late brides are experimenting with the designs and we are completely and totally in love with those new designs as well.

The Wedding Mannequin Challenge
Haven’t we all played a game called “Statue” when we were kids? Remember?! This new wedding trend is somewhat similar to that childhood game. The whole social media is abuzz with this new trend. It’s simple – just do not breathe, blink or sneeze while making this video! 🙂

Couple Shoots
We see that more couples are opting for pre-wedding / post-wedding photo shoots. Apart from the fact that you get to spend some quality time with your partner before the main event, you also get to know the photographer.

The trend of using ghenda (marigold) flowers in decor will continue well into 2017. The only challenge is to find new ways to use ghenda flowers in decoration.

Destination Weddings
They say there is no place like home. We totally agree but that doesn’t mean you have to get married there! These days, more and more couples are opting for an intimate destination wedding. Apart from being less stressful, it gives the couple an opportunity to exchange the vows among their close family & friends at breathtaking locales.

Cashless gifting at Weddings
Traditionally, the friends and family of the newly wedded couple shower them with gifts (both cash and kind) to help them start their new life. We all know that demonitisation led to temporary cash squeeze and so, giving cash as a wedding gift is no longer an option. We might get to see some creative ways of giving gifts!
Psst…paytm karo! 😉

And that’s our list of top wedding trends for 2017!

Stay Happy!!
