Hello Lovelies,

Happy Father’s Day!
Fathers are pretty awesome. No two ways about it!
From doting on their daughters showering them with unconditional love to imparting greatest lessons of life and from fussing over the optionals taken during High School to discreetly shedding tears on the her wedding day, dads are just blessings from above. No, seriously! What would we do without them!!
So this Father’s Day, we decided to interview a daughter who dreamed to do something on her own in memory of her late father who is a business man. She not just dreamed but also went all out to create a business venture and a successful one at that. Oh, and by the way, she is into the business of making the weddings beautiful and memorable with her incredibly creative decor designs.

And without further ado, here is an excerpt from our interview…

1. How and when did you start your career as a decor designer?
“My dad, being a business person himself, always wanted me to get into service sector. So, I never had the plans to start a business. Immediately after my graduation, I was placed with an MNC as a Software Engineer with a good package. The day I received my offer letter, my dad was the happiest person on the earth. He was so proud of me. I loved my job and excelled at it. He then came to know of an alliance that would be perfect in all aspects. I didn’t find any reason to say no and that’s how I got married to a wonderful person. I was on cloud nine on my wedding day. I felt I have everything I ever wanted – wonderful dad to guide me, a loving husband and a beautiful family. But little did I know that fate had other plans for me. Within a week of my wedding, my dad passed away of cardiac arrest! The mango leaves and marigolds adorning our threshold were still fresh and green! I couldn’t cope up with the sudden personal loss. I felt as if the whole world had come to a stop. He was my hero!

The only thing that kept me going was my job. But after a few months I couldn’t concentrate. I felt it would be deceiving the company (that I love the most) if I continue working there anymore. My friends also felt that I would do well if I do something that would satiate my creative appetite. So I resigned my position to delve into the sea of business headlong without any specific idea. I wanted to carry on the legacy of my dad by becoming a business woman!
During my wedding, I spent seven wonderful & glorious days with my father before he passed away. So, I wanted to preserve my last memories with my dad by working for weddings. Even now, whenever I work for weddings, I feel his presence.

Was always into designing and that’s how ‘Dream Day Designers’ was born as a tribute to a great father who always wanted best for his beloved daughter!” she pauses to look away for a moment before resuming our conversation. Are those tears that sparkled in her eyes? Or is it her twinkling dream.

2. How would you define your style?
Classic elegance! I feel the decor should be a visual treat. Something that’s impressive and eye-catchy. Wedding is a lifetime event and the decor should be lifetime too!

3. What inspires you?
The client’s appreciation. It’s not always in words. But the way their eyes light up when they look at our decor for the first time is something that needs to be seen to be believed. And the challenge to convert the ideas of our clients into reality is something I always look forward to and keeps me going.

4. What keeps you motivated? Any role models?
I get inspired by all the women entrepreneurs. It isn’t an easy task to create a business and sustain it. If women like Rani Laxmi Bai and Queen Velu Nachiar fought ferociously in the battle field, women these days are no less. They have to fight in every step they take for their identity! Hats off to them!!

And my role model has been and will always be my dad! He was a great business man. But what he didn’t realise is that his daughter has been observing and silently learning from him from her childhood. I run my business as per his ideals and ethics. Every time I encounter a problem, I just have to think for a moment as to what my father would have done in that situation. And I would be already on my way to fix it.

Aww! Isn’t this decor made exclusively for baby shower function adorable? We fell for it!

5. How do you come up with a unique design for every wedding?
The whole credit goes to my clients. They have never approved a design that has been used earlier. Ever! They expect me to show them new and unique designs. So I read a lot of classic literature, observe temple architecture and watch old movies (yes!). Then I use my creativity to come up with a new design by incorporating all these aspects.

6. Any tips for the brides to be?
Times have changed and every single thing related to wedding has to be approved by the bride and the groom. They want everything to reflect their personality. And why shouldn’t they, after all it’s THEIR wedding?! I think this is a welcome change! But my only concern is that they worry a lot until a moment before tying the knot. I, personally, feel both the bride and the groom should start their wedding prep as early as possible and take a month off just before their wedding. Like I said, it’s once in a lifetime experience. So chill and have fun!

7. What major wedding decor trends do you foresee for 2018 & 2019?
Of late, a lot of couples are preferring classy and elegant designs. And a lot of them are insisting on having some kind of hang-ons or flower garlands from the ceiling.

8. What are your future plans?
As of now, we are offering our services in South India. Very soon, we are planning to expand our services to North India as well. Destination wedding opportunities are also on the cards. In the long run, with the blessings of my dad, we want to make our presence felt across the globe!

All this wouldn’t have been possible without the support and guidance of my mom husband, friends & well-wishers and of course, the blessings of my guardian angel my dad dearest.

Ah, dads & daughters! Loads of Love and huge hugs to all the dads who raise strong daughters!!!
