But ladies remember that this is the perfect time to experiment and make an impression with your fashion choices. This Pongal, show off your personal style and taste by choosing traditional yet trendy outfits.

Ashwini Reddy, well known fashion designer from Hyderabad has graciously agreed to share some tips for our fashion conscious readers –

Brocade Lehengas – Take traditional lehenga to the next level with these multi woven brocade lehengas! When teamed up with a crop top it gives a modern twist to your traditional attire.

2. Are you bored of dupattas? Why don’t you try capes? Go trendy this festive season with uber stylish cape lehenga and you can be sure to stand out from the crowd!

3. Kanchi Pattu Lehengas – We all love Kanchi pattu lehengas with big zari borders. Don’t we?! Get glamorous by pairing it up with a high neck or a crop top. It looks good with or without dupatta. So get your creative juices flowing and redefine your traditional Indian look!

A chanderi lehenga with Kanjeevaram borders…Isn’t it gorgeous?!

4. Light silk Lehengas – If you do not want to go for heavy silks and embellishments then go for light silk lehengas. This season they are hot picks! A classic light silk lehenga with a crop top would make a perfect festive outfit. Add an embellished waist belt for that chic and trendy look!

5. Cold shoulder cut tops – Did you know that cold shoulder tops are back? When you team it up with a traditional lehenga it would give you a chic yet traditional look. This looks good on those with toned shoulders. Go for it and show off your sleek shoulders!

Isn’t this mom daughter duo looking lovely in similar outfits?! 🙂

5. Long Anarkalis – “When in doubt, go for Anarkali” has been our style mantra for sometime now. And why not? There is no other outfit that’s both comfortable and fashionable at the same time. Long floor length anarkalis with banarasee dupattas are in. Try them!

Psst…don’t have time to buy a banarasee dupatta? Raid your mom’s wardrobe and see if you can find a saree that can be converted to a dupatta.

Caution – Make sure the saree isn’t your mom’s favourite! Else, it might back fire!! 😉

6. For Teens – Teens can go a step ahead and experiment a bit more. Geometric designs are trending now. So select a checks skirts with a banarasee dupatta. oh, and by the way, peplum blouses are a rage among the teens too. Give it a try! 🙂

Hair dos & jewellery

  1. High neck tops – High french braid for someone with long hair and side loop braid for someone with short hair. Accessorise it with a statement maang tikka or just chandelier earrings.
  2. Deep neck tops – Girls with long hair can leave their hair down and girls with short hair can go for a pony or a bun. Choker necklaces or antique jewellery would suit your ensemble. And don’t forget to wear fresh flowers around the bun!
  3. Cape tops – Go for backcombed hairdos. Accessorise with sleek chokers or long layered bead chains.
Thank you Ashwini for sharing these tips with us!

So, now tell us, which of these outfits are you going to don during the festival?

Happy Pongal!
