By TGB Desk / On April 9th, 2017

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. The days sizzle as mercury soars and the streets are lined with stalls selling luscious mangoes, coconuts, water melons and sugarcane juice. Summer is here and there is no avoiding it. But one thing that can make me forget all the worries associated with summer is a small white flower with ethereal fragrance. It’s time for Jasmine mania. To me, there is something magical about these fragrant flowers. I fall in love with these flowers every time I see them.

There is no denying the fact that jasmine flower is an intrinsic part of Indian culture. Jasmines take a place of pride in all the religious ceremonies and rituals. From thresholds of the houses to wedding altars and from puja rooms to the kolams in the front yards, jasmines add a touch of fragrance and beauty. Being the favorite of the Gods, these flowers are widely offered at temples. Jasmines are considered as a symbol of love, beauty, happiness, joy and prosperity. So it’s customary in South India to give strands of jasmine flowers to the lady guests at weddings and other religious ceremonies. Oh, it’s such a beautiful sight to see strings of shiny white flowers neatly tucked in the dark long hair of women at weddings.

With it’s heavenly fragrance and wispy appearance it has become an important bridal accessory. And why not, these flowers are capable to make women look and feel gorgeous. An exquisite mogra gajra or an opulent malli poo jadai (jasmine braid) is very popular with Indian brides. Unarguably, jasmine is one of the very few organic cosmetics that’s available.
