“Ghoonghat ki aad se dilbar ka
deedar adhooraa rehtaa hai
jab tak na pade, ashiq ki nazar
Shringar adhooraa rehtaa hai…”
Such a beautiful song! Who can forget gorgeous Juhi Chawla and her stunning outfits?!! This song from a hit bollywood movie beautifully describes the pain of the couple who have to be content by looking at each other through the veil.

A ghoonghat (a facial veil) is worn by brides belonging to a few communities across India. It’s customary for the brides belonging to Hindi speaking areas of India to wear a head scarf for weddings. It’s also called Siro-vastra in Sanskrit and is used to cover the head and the face of the bride. It’s usually worn to ward off evil eye.

This post is for the brides who are planning to wear a veil on their wedding day. If veil is part of your bridal attire then make sure to match it with your wedding outfit (Lehenga / Saree). It makes sense to get it made by the same designer who designed your wedding outfit. That way you can be sure that it complements your wedding ensemble. You might also want to think if you want the same embellishments that were used on your wedding outfit. If that’s the case, then let the designer know about it before hand.
